Glenmark Generics Recalls 7 Lots of Birth Control Pills

On February 27, 2012, Glenmark Generics recalled 7 lots of birth control pills. Some pills were placed in the wrong rows in the packaging, which could result in ineffectiveness. McKinley has not dispensed any birth control pills from Glenmark. More information

One million contraceptive packs are recalled because of error

On February 1st, 2012, Pfizer recalled 14 lots of oral contraceptive Lo/Ovral and another 14 lots of a generic version that were sold in 28-day blister packs. The drugmaker said some packets might have an inexact count of active pills or the pills may be out of order. Women exposed to the affected products should use nonhormonal contraception immediately, Pfizer said. More information


Common Questions and Answers for McKinley Users

I use McKinley’s pharmacy for my oral contraceptives. Am I affected by the recall?
No. McKinley’s pharmacy has not dispensed any of the recalled product. Students who have filled their prescription at McKinley are not affected by this recall.

I use another pharmacy for my contraceptives. Am I affected?
If you use either Pfizer Lo-Ovral or Akrimax norgestrol and ethinyl estradiol then your product may have been recalled. If you are using any other brands, then your product has not been recalled. Contact the pharmacy where your received your product to see if it needs to be replaced. Only the pharmacy that issued recalled product is able to participate in exchanging the product. The McKinley pharmacy has not issued any recalled product.

I am a current McKinley patient, and I received the recalled product elsewhere. I can’t easily get replacement product. Can McKinley help me?
Yes, McKinley can help you. Ask your current provider to fax a prescription to our pharmacy at 217-244-6309. Note, the McKinley pharmacy does not accept insurance. For currently covered students, the charge for the equivalent product is $8 / cycle. Faxed prescriptions are usually filled within one weekday.

McKinley Pharmacy cannot accept the recalled product.

I have the recalled product and I have been using. Is it dangerous?
No, the recalled products lots are safe to use but they may not be fully effective as contraceptives. Patients using a recalled product as a contraceptive should immediately begin using a nonhormonal contraceptive such as condoms. Patients who are using a recalled product for other medical reasons should contact their prescribing physician for assistance.
