What Viruses Do Vaccines Protect Against?
There are many flu viruses and they are constantly changing. The composition of U.S. flu vaccines is reviewed annually and updated to match circulating flu viruses. Flu vaccines protect against the three or four viruses that research suggests will be most common.
For the 2025-2026 Influenza season, McKinley Health Center will offer a three-component influenza vaccine (trivalent) which is representative of the following prototype strains of influenza:
- an A/Victoria/4897/2022 (H1N1)pdm09-like virus;
- an A/Croatia/10136RV/2023(H3N2)-like virus;
- a B/Austria/1359417/2021-like virus (B/Victoria lineage)
- Thimerosol Free
